CENTRE WELLINGTON – Firefighters from the Fergus station responded to a grass fire on the 5th Line on Aug. 11, but the fire was contained and out by the time they arrived.

ERIN – Organizers are asking the community to join them in welcoming the RCMP Musical Ride to Erin.

MAPLETON – Four horses and 49 cattle were lost in a fire that destroyed a barn here on Aug. 15. Fire Chief Rick Richardson said Mapleton Fire Rescue was called to the blaze on the 4th Line near Wellington Road 12 at around 2:45pm.

FERGUS – The first in-person Fergus Scottish Festival and Highland Games since the pandemic was a resounding success, organizers say.

ERIN – A woman was taken to hospital after falling off a horse here on Sunday afternoon.

NORTH PERTH – A Palmerston man is dead following a two-vehicle collision here on Monday. Perth County OPP officials say emergency crews responded to the crash on Line 91, west of Perth Road 140, on Aug. 15 at around 11:45am.

ERIN – A second race for mayor has popped up in Wellington County. Michael Dehn filed his nomination papers on Aug. 12 and will run against current councillor Rob Smith.

CENTRE WELLINGTON – There will be a three-way race for mayor here as Bob Foster has thrown his hat into the ring.

CENTRE WELLINGTON – More than 60 cattle were lost and damages estimated at $5 million in a barn fire that occurred in the early hours on Aug. 13.

MINTO – A new well and pump for a rural subdivision here will be installed with the assistance of federal and provincial funding.

MAPLETON – A proposal to lower speed limits in urban areas throughout the township to 40 kilometres per hour (km/h) has been rejected by council here.

MELANCTHON – Wellington-Dufferin-Guelph Public Health received notification of a positive rabies test in a bat on Aug. 10. There were two human exposures to the animal. Both individuals have begun a treatment protocol.

FERGUS – The streets of downtown Fergus were lined in Scottish colours and spirit for the Pipes, Plaid, and Pageantry parade on Aug. 11.
