Saugeen Conservation names new general manager

FORMOSA – The Saugeen Valley Conservation Authority has appointed Erik Downing as its general manager/secretary-treasurer.

SOUTHGATE – More than a year after she was reported missing, Monica Chisar’s remains were discovered in a wooded area just north of Mount Forest. She was just 29 years old. A 19-month investigation led detectives to Hamilton, and a Kosovo expat on the run from U.S. authorities.

County suspends ‘Continuum of Care’ project due to lack of funding options

GUELPH – At its Nov. 28 meeting, county council voted in favour of a recommendation to direct staff to cease the development plans for the “Continuum of Care” project, which was to have provided a variety of seniors’ housing options, including affordable and market-based rental and life-lease units.

Public health submits balanced budget for 2025

GUELPH – The board of health has approved the Wellington-Dufferin-Guelph Public Health budget for 2025.

Public health concerned about youth gambling

GUELPH – Wellington-Dufferin-Guelph Public Health (WDGPH) is concerned that some youths in the region are developing problems with gambling. It’s occupying their mind space, affecting their relationships and, in some cases, is getting youth into debt.

Erin council approves 2025 budget, 2.4% tax rate increase

ERIN – After much discussion and several disagreements between town staff and councillors, the Town of Erin’s 2025 budget has been passed.

Town of Erin to reinstate previous shamrock logo

ERIN – After more than two months of controversy surrounding a new town logo, council has directed staff to immediately “retain the look and feel of the existing shamrock logo.”

Tax rate increase of 4.4% proposed for Guelph/Eramosa

BRUCEDALE – Guelph/Eramosa is looking at a four per cent tax rate increase based on the proposed 2025 budget presented to council at its Nov. 18 committee of the whole meeting.

FERGUS – On Nov. 16 at about 9pm, Wellington County OPP officers were conducting a RIDE program on Wellington Road 18. A Scarborough driver was charged with driving while impaired by alcohol or drugs and failing to comply with a demand for a breath sample. He is to appear in Guelph court on Dec. 17.

MISSISSAUGA – The province’s Special Investigations Unit has found no grounds to criminally charge any OPP officers in connection to a man’s injuries after a pursuit that ended in a Centre Wellington ditch in March.

Mapleton approves $30-million budget, 3.6% tax levy increase

MAPLETON – The first municipality in Wellington County to pass a 2025 budget is the Township of Mapleton, which approved a $30-million consolidated budget on Nov. 26.

Etobicoke resident dead after three-vehicle crash near Clifford

MINTO – Emergency crews were called to the scene on Highway 9 on Dec. 2 at about 7:25am. Wellington County OPP officials say two SUVs and one tractor trailer were involved in the crash.

MINTO – Town staff department heads, treasurer Gordon Duff and chief administrative officer (CAO) Gregg Furtney gathered in the council chambers to present a 2025 draft capital budget on Nov. 26.

Puslinch mayor and council getting a pay raise

ABERFOYLE – Puslinch Mayor James Seeley's salary will rise by 33% next year, and councillors will be paid 3.4% more, in an effort to bring their compensation more in line with comparable municipalities.
