WATERLOO – Palmerston native Leah Herrfort will join Canada’s women’s hockey team for a second time at the FISU Winter World University Games for a chance to win another gold medal. 

ROCKWOOD – Rockwood resident Jenn Banfield is training for the Canadian Ski Marathon, North America’s oldest cross-country ski event, taking place on Feb. 8 and 9 in the Montebello, Quebec area.

WELLINGTON COUNTY  – The winter season is here,  which means summer sports have been put on pause – or maybe they haven’t. 

GUELPH/ERAMOSA – On Christmas Eve, Riley Sandham and Brendan Craig will be boarding a plane and flying east for a shot at representing Canada in the 2026 Winter Olympics. 

FERGUS – The Fergus Curling Club held its annual 101 Bonspiel on Nov. 23.

MOUNT FOREST – The Mount Forest Curling Club is getting set to host the U18 Men's and Women's 2025 Provincial Curling Championship from Jan. 8 to 12, 2025, and volunteers are needed to make the event a success.

CENTRE WELLINGTON – The Centre Wellington District High School Junior Boys basketball team defeated Centennial 62-17 on Nov. 28 in Fergus.

ELORA – The next Elora Rocks home game will be a chance to support kids’ cancer research.

FERGUS – The Grand River Mustangs hosted their sixth annual Remembrance Day Classic hockey tournament from Nov. 8 to 10 in Fergus.

PUSLINCH – Richard Moreau has been fined $40,000 and suspended from standardbred racing in Ontario for 10 years.

FERGUS – The combined team of Fergus Highland Rugby and Waterloo Country U14 girls went through the Rugby Ontario Junior Cup Tournament 4-0, outscoring their opponents 120-10 on Oct. 27. 

KENILWORTH – Wellington North council has agreed to partner with the Arthur Curling Club to apply for provincial funding to help the club replace its floor.

FERGUS – The Fergus Highland U16 girls rugby team won bronze after a match against Aurora at the Rugby Ontario Junior Cup tournament on Oct. 27.
