MAPLETON - Council has amended the township’s parking bylaw to restrict parking to one side of the road on both High Street and Smith Drive in Drayton in order to enhance pedestrian safety in the area.

WELLINGTON COUNTY – Active COVID-19 cases in the region are up for the first time in six weeks. Wellington-Dufferin-Guelph Public Health (WDGPH) is reporting 68 new COVID-19 cases over the weekend (Feb. 26 to 28).

ARTHUR – The Arthur Fire Hall will be getting a new sign worth over $32,000 after the request was approved by Wellington North council.

ERIN – Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, this year's Erin Seedy Saturday has gone virtual. Organizer Jen Edwards has been busy collecting, sorting and organizing seeds since last fall. 

WELLINGTON COUNTY – It appears the Wellington-Dufferin-Guelph Public Health (WDGPH) region will remain in the province's red COVID-19 alert level for at least another week, despite a significant drop in cases and vast improvements in COVID indicators.

MAPLETON – A motion to support the application was approved unanimously by township council on Feb. 24 following a report by Mapleton Fire Chief Rick Richardson.

WELLINGTON COUNTY – Non-union County of Wellington employees will receive a 1.9 per cent pay increase beginning July 1, after county council reversed an earlier decision to freeze the workers' pay at 2020 levels.

ELORA – A new grocery store, the Geddes Street Market, will be opening in Elora this spring. Debra Kropf will own and operate the store that once belonged to her parents, Merlen and Doreen Kropf, at 169 Geddes Street.

WELLINGTON COUNTY – A climate change mitigation plan has been endorsed by Wellington County council and staff have been directed to prepare cost estimates and a work plan to move it forward.

GUELPH – Upper Grand District School Board (UGDSB) board officials say they are preparing to deal with new COVID-19 strains and the potential third wave that may come with them.

FERGUS – Centre Wellington residents and businesses have the chance to reimagine St. David Street in Fergus as the township considers how to reconstruct the major thoroughfare after infrastructure work is complete.

MINTO – Town council awarded a tender for replacement of three culverts on the 12 Line at its Feb. 16 meeting. The successful bidder was Moorefield-based The Murray Group, which submitted a bid of $314,021, the lowest of two received.

MAPLETON – Council here has approved a formal policy that will allow some employees to continue working from home, even after pandemic-related restrictions are eased.

MAPLETON – Innovation Guelph recently announced a Community Collaboration Project, through the Digital Main Street project, with the Mapleton Chamber of Commerce.

ABOYNE – A COVID-19 outbreak has been declared at Wellington Terrace Long-Term Care Home after an essential caregiver for a resident tested positive for the virus. County officials say the individual, last in the building on Feb. 21, is asymptomatic and in isolation at home.
