FERGUS – Wellington County’s first baby of 2023, Euphemia Emma Ruttan-Rude, was born at Groves Memorial Community Hospital at 3:43am on Jan. 1.

WELLINGTON COUNTY – No one was seriously injured, but police responded to hundreds of calls across the county between Dec. 23 and 26, during what was likely the worst winter storm here in several years.

KENILWORTH - Some residents voiced concerns about an 18-unit cluster townhouse proposal for Mount Forest during a Dec. 19 public meeting.

MOUNT FOREST – A new ice system for the Mount Forest Curling Club is set to become a reality with the assistance of the Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF).

KENILWORTH – The former Sacred Heart School located at 9135 Highway 6 here could be demolished within the next few years, council heard at a Dec. 19 meeting.

WELLINGTON NORTH – The township's premium is up by 22% year-over-year from $265,738 in 2022 to $324,782 in 2023 thanks to inflation and additional building valuations.

WELLINGTON COUNTY – The County of Wellington has declared a “significant weather event” due to the considerable snowfall and current blowing snow.

WELLINGTON COUNTY – Libraries and waste facilities across the county are closed today in response to a major winter storm warning. The Wellington County Museum and Archives has also been closed.

WELLINGTON COUNTY – With a major storm warning issued by Environment Canada for the province, including the local region, numerous closures have been announced with more expected as the storm progresses.

WELLINGTON NORTH - The final step in a zoning bylaw amendment process converting nine acres of agricultural land in Arthur to rural industrial for a future county garage has been finalized by council in a 3-2 vote on Dec. 19.
