DRAYTON – Twenty-eight Grade 6 students from Maryborough Public School participated in a “Shop with a cop and a firefighter” event on Dec. 19 at the Drayton Freshmart, raising $3,000 in donations for the local food bank.

Wellington County – The county's Green Legacy program, which has grown to be the largest municipal tree planting program in North America, hit 20 years old in 2024, and it’s still going strong.

WELLINGTON COUNTY – Students at the Upper Grand and Wellington Catholic district school boards performed better, on average, than their provincial peers on tests from the Education Quality and Accountability Office (EQAO).  

WELLINGTON COUNTY – As the county continues to work on its rollout of automated speed enforcement, the areas around eight schools are being added to the list of locations designated as “community safety zones.”

MAPLETON – The township-run before and after school program for youth at Drayton Heights Public School continues to grow.

MAPLETON – Five school zones and one community safety zone in Mapleton will be part of a trial automated speed enforcement (ASE) program on Wellington County roads.

MAPLETON – A rocket will launch experiments to astronauts on the International Space Station next June, and one of those experiments will be designed by students from the Upper Grand District School Board.  

‘Shop with a Cop and Firefighter’ – Maryborough Public School Grade 6 students had an opportunity to shop with some Wellington County OPP officers and Mapleton firefighters at Foodland in Drayton on Dec. 20.

Tournament champions – The Maryborough Public School team won the North Wellington school volleyball tournament on Dec. 7 at Victoria Cross Public School in Mount Forest.

MAPLETON – Classroom environments may look very different to today’s seniors, but the key lessons they’ve learned in life will now be part of the curriculum for students in Teszalyn Roantree’s grade 4/5 class at Maryborough Public School. 

MAPLETON – While the township’s before and after school program at Maryborough Public School is closing for the remainder of this school year, the door has been left open to relaunch the program next fall.

MAPLETON – Barring a last-minute influx of participants, the township will soon wind down its before-and-after-school care program at Maryborough Public School in Moorefield.
