ARTHUR – The "voluntary management contract" between the Arthur facility and North Wellington Health Care, which operates hospitals in Mount Forest and Palmerston, was announced by the province on Jan. 13. It will be in effect for 90 days, though it can be extended if necessary.

ELORA – Centre Wellington councillors approved the 2021 budget, with a 1.33 per cent increase to taxpayers, by a one-vote margin at its committee of the whole meeting on Jan. 5.

WELLINGTON COUNTY – County councillors are planning to work with staff through committees to reduce a proposed 2.5 per cent tax rate increase in 2021 to 1.25% or less.

GUELPH – Public health officials are hopeful that by the end of this week, they will be able to offer COVID-19 vaccinations for residents at long-term care homes in the region.

WELLINGTON COUNTY – Local residents should be "very concerned" about new provincial COVID-19 modelling and act immediately to help avoid the worst-case scenario. That was the message relayed by Wellington-Dufferin-Guelph Public Health on Jan. 12.

TORONTO – Due to a rapid increase in the number of COVID-19 cases across Ontario, and the corresponding strain placed on the health care system, the province has declared a second state of emergency and introduced more strict lockdown measures.

CENTRE WELLINGTON – Emergency crews were called to the scene, on Highway 6 between the 4th and 6th lines south of Fergus, just before 7am on Jan. 12.

MOUNT FOREST – Wellington County OPP officials say that on Jan. 2 at about 10am, someone returning to their vehicle in a parking lot at a business on Main Street near Queen Street in Mount Forest noticed a suspect in the driver's seat.
