MINTO – Two municipalities in Wellington County have been selected to receive "strong mayor powers" and some Minto councillors feel “highly insulted” and concerned by the move.

MINTO – June has come and gone, but that hasn't stopped a group of “concerned citizens” from campaigning against Pride Month celebrations and displays – and even the Minto Pride committee.

MAPLETON – Council here has appointed councillor Michael Martin to the joint fire services management committee for Mapleton, Minto and Wellington North. 

MINTO – A delegation returned to town council on Tuesday, as proponents of a petition pushed for answers regarding a requested “neutrality” bylaw.

Councillors here have expressed support for several pieces of correspondence calling on upper levels of government to provide more funds to help small municipalities deal with housing issues.

MINTO – Council here is supporting a resolution calling on the Ontario Good Roads Association and Rural Ontario Municipal Association to go back to the past practice of holding a combined annual conference.

MINTO – It may be a small town, but Minto was bustling with community activity in 2023, according to a year-end report from the municipality’s economic and community development department. The department hosted or facilitated a total of 95 community events last year.

MINTO – The total cost of paying local politicians in Minto increased by over $13,000 last year. A report shows salary and expenses paid to members of Minto council between Nov. 16, 2022 and Nov. 15, 2023 totalled $181,256.

MINTO – Hunting with guns will be allowed here on Sundays, following a unanimous decision of town council.

MINTO – A bylaw amending zoning on a lot in Palmerston to facilitate a high-density development was approved by town council on Jan. 23.

MINTO – The eighth annual Andersons’ Community Christmas Dinner was “a huge success,” organizers report. 

MINTO – Town council has been presented with a proposed 2024 budget projecting a 4.39 per cent increase in the local levy and a tax rate increase of 1.74%.
