ELORA – The Elora Preschool is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year, a milestone that’s rare for any business and perhaps even more rare for a childcare centre. And the centre hasn’t changed that much, said teacher/supervisor Nancy Vink, who has been with the centre for 15 years.

GUELPH – A Nation’s Table: The Anita Stewart and Food Day Canada Story was unveiled at the University of Guelph Arboretum on July 25. 

Thousands of people showed up at the July 30 event, which was held off for about an hour as rain deluged the village.

ELORA – On July 30, Elora’s Longest BBQ will launch Food Day Canada, which falls on Aug. 3 this year. “It’s about fostering community, supporting local businesses and celebrating our vibrant food culture,” said Food Day Canada board director Jeff Stewart.

ELORA – The savoury scent of freshly prepared Canadian ingredients filled the air as chefs and cooks exercised their culinary chops on the Jack R. MacDonald bridge in downtown Elora Aug. 1 to celebrate the legacy of the late Anita Stewart and Food Day Canada.

WELLINGTON COUNTY – Local residents are being encouraged to celebrate Food Day Canada on Aug. 5 by cooking meals with curated farmers’ market recipes using local ingredients.

ELORA – Food Day Canada was born in Elora, so it’s only fitting that Elora will host a kick-off event to mark the 20th anniversary of the national celebration of Canadian food, farmers and food producers.

OTTAWA – The Saturday of the August long weekend will officially be celebrated as Food Day Canad after the Food Day in Canada Act was unanimously adopted in the House of Commons on May 8.

OTTAWA – Bill S-227, known as the Food Day in Canada Act, passed its second reading in the House of Commons on Nov. 2, with parliamentarians unanimously voting to adopt the bill.

MOUNT FOREST - An exhibit showcasing some of the most interesting women in local history is on display at the Mount Forest Museum and Archives.

ELORA – Food Day Canada is a national event for all Canadians to celebrate their food and all the good people who make it happen, from farm to fork. 

OTTAWA – Senator Rob Black is pushing to pass a bill that would officially recognize Food Day on a national scale, while also carrying on the legacy of Canadian food champion Anita Stewart.
