Police beat: Thief steals $250,000 worth of jewelry from home
PUSLINCH – Police are looking for help to identify a suspect after $250,000 worth of jewelry was stolen from a home here last week.
Wellington County OPP officials say police responded to a break-in “at a residence on Calfrass Road in Puslinch” on June 24 at about 8:30am.
Police say that about 30 minutes prior, a suspect entered the home “through the front entrance and stole approximately $250,000 worth of jewelry.
“The victim returned home shortly after and contacted police. The suspect fled prior to police arrival.”
The suspect was wearing a hoodie, black leather jacket, mask, gloves, pants with a camouflage print and dirty white flat shoes. The suspect may be operating a dark coloured e-bike bearing a plate with an “E-BIKE” marker and wearing a red helmet.

Big drug bust
ERIN – Two Halton residents and two Oshawa residents have been charged after $4.7 million worth of drugs was seized as part of a large bust last month at homes in Acton, Georgetown, Erin and Oshawa.
A June 26 press release from the OPP’s Organized Crime Enforcement Bureau stated that in March, police started a “multi-jurisdictional” investigation” into suspected drug trafficking between Ontario and Québec.
“Through the investigation, officers identified a drug trafficking network operating in the Greater Toronto Area, including individuals in Halton Region,” police stated.
On June 4, five search warrants were executed at residences in Acton, Georgetown, Erin and Oshawa by the Wellington OPP and police in the Durham and Halton regions. They seized:
– 46 kg suspected cocaine;
– 400 bottles of liquid codeine (100ml);
– 3,900 oxycodone tablets (5mg and 8mg sizes);
– six bottles of liquid hydrocodone (500ml);
– cell phones; and
– Canadian currency.
“The estimated street value of the drugs seized is $4.7 million,” police stated.
Charged with two counts each of drug trafficking were:
– Stephen Hunter, 34, of Acton (also charged with possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000);
– Daniel Blight, 32, of Georgetown;
– Austin Huxter, 32 of Oshawa; and
– Andrea Huxter, 32 of Oshawa.
The accused were released and are to appear in Milton court on July 10 (Hunter and Blight) and 17 (both Huxters).

Assault with a weapon
PUSLINCH – An Elora resident is facing weapon charges following what police are calling “an altercation” last weekend.
Wellington County OPP officials say police responded to a disturbance at an Arkell Road house in Puslinch on June 26 at about 11:15pm.
“One person was transported to a local hospital with serious yet non-life-threatening injuries,” police stated in a press release.
A 39-year-old from Elora was charged with assault with a weapon, possessing a weapon for dangerous purpose, uttering threats to damage or injure an animal and mischief over $5,000.
Police say they are not releasing the name of the individual, who was to attend a bail hearing, “out of concern for their well-being.”
