Police beat: Assault, sexual assault, confinement charges
MOUNT FOREST – A Guelph resident has been charged with multiple counts of sexual assault, forcible confinement and spousal assault over a five year period.
Wellington County OPP officials say officers launched an investigation “after receiving a report of historical intimate partner violence incidents that occurred at a residence in Mount Forest on various dates between June 2020 and November 2025.”
A 48-year-old from Guelph was charged with four counts of sexual assault, three counts of spousal assault and three counts of forcible confinement.
The accused is to appear in Guelph court on a later date.
Pharmacy break-in, theft
FERGUS – Police are looking for help to identify the suspect in an overnight break-in and theft at a pharmacy in Fergus.
Wellington County OPP officials say officers responded to a break-in at a pharmacy on St. Andrew Street West in Fergus on July 28 at about 3:30am.
Police say “an unknown suspect forcibly entered the business through the front door, concealed various narcotics and departed prior to police arrival.”
The suspect is described as a male carrying an umbrella and wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, brown khaki-style pants, black gloves, a black crossbody bag and Nike-branded shoes.

Crypto scam
FERGUS – Police are investigating an online fraud that resulted in a $50,000 loss for a Fergus resident.
Wellington County OPP officials say officers responded to a call on Aug. 25 at about 2:30pm from a Fergus resident who received communications from individuals claiming to be representatives of a cryptocurrency exchange platform.
“The representatives advised there was a security concern related to the victim’s cryptocurrency wallet and accounts,” police stated in a press release.
“Believing the communications to be legitimate and noting that they included professional branding, the victim acted on the instructions provided by completing a number of actions involving their accounts and cryptocurrency holdings.”
The victim believed the concern was resolved but later discovered a significant amount of cryptocurrency had been transferred from their accounts to unknown wallet addresses. The loss is estimated at about $50,000.
Break-in, theft
MOUNT FOREST – Police are investigating a break-in and theft at a commercial property here.
Wellington County OPP officials say officers responded to a break-in on Industrial Drive in Mount Forest on Aug. 18 at about 9am.
Police say that sometime overnight “one or more suspects attended the property, broke into a vehicle and stole several thousand dollars worth of tools and copper cable.”

Careless driving
FERGUS – A Brampton driver has been charged with careless driving following a collision in Fergus last week.
Emergency crews responded on Aug. 28 at about 1:30pm to a two-vehicle collision on Wellington Road 18 between Orangeville Road and Wellington Road 29 in Fergus.
“Two individuals were transported to a local hospital with minor injuries,” police stated.
A 25-year-old from Brampton was charged with careless driving and is to appear in Guelph court at a later date.
Partner violence
WELLINGTON COUNTY – Local police continue to lay intimate partner violence charges across the county.
Those arrested include a 46-year-old from Ballinafad who was charged with domestic mischief and spousal assault in relation to an incident in Erin on Aug. 20.
The accused individuals are to appear in Guelph court at a later date.
