Man charged with impaired, dangerous driving in jet ski collision

Passenger airlifted to hospital following Conestogo Lake crash

MAPLETON – A Waterloo man is facing impaired, dangerous driving and fleeing the scene charges following a jet ski collision on Conestogo Lake on the weekend.

Emergency crews responded to the crash, involving a single personal watercraft, on Aug. 29 at about 5pm.

Wellington County OPP officials say the driver of the watercraft fled the scene prior to police arrival.

"Police conducted a search of the area for the driver, who was located nearby," police stated in a and Aug. 31 press release.

"Upon further investigation, officers observed signs of impairment."

Police say the driver was arrested and transported to a local hospital with minor injuries.

A passenger "was transported to a local hospital and later airlifted to a trauma centre with serious but non-life-threatening injuries," police stated.

Peter Beutler, 51, of Waterloo, was charged with driving while impaired, dangerous driving causing bodily harm and failing to stop at an accident resulting in bodily harm.

He is to appear in Guelph court on Oct. 6.
