Police beat: Pedestrian struck
FERGUS – A local senior was charged with careless driving last week after a pedestrian was hit by a vehicle that then fled the scene.
Wellington County OPP officials say police were called to the scene, at Millburn Boulevard and St. David Street South in Fergus, on June 8 at about 2:15pm.
“During the course of the investigation, it was determined that the suspect motor vehicle had failed to stop for a stop sign, striking a crossing pedestrian,” police stated in a press release.
The vehicle then “proceeded on without checking on the pedestrian,” police added.
“It was also noted that the pedestrian had to strike the hood multiple times to get the vehicle to stop. Thankfully, no injuries were reported to the pedestrian.”
A 74-year-old from Fergus was charged with careless driving, failing to remain at the scene on a collision and failing to surrender an insurance card.
Police refused to identify the driver when asked by the Advertiser.
The accused is to appear in Guelph court at a later date.
