WELLINGTON COUNTY –Community Living Guelph Wellington received a bit of a reprieve from the Ministry of Children, Community and Social Services and intends to restart its day programs and EmployMEnt Options at the end of January.

GUELPH – Youth vaping is on the rise in Wellington County.  That’s according to Wellington-Dufferin-Guelph Public Health (WDGPH), which is hosting a virtual youth vaping information session for parents on Jan. 24 from 7 to 8pm.

PUSLINCH – Puslinch residents are catching on to recycling in a big way. Results of a pilot program with recycling bins in public places indicate an 80 per cent recovery rate for beverage containers which is high, and a 30% contamination rate, which is low.

ROCKWOOD – For 52 years, the Rockwood and District Lions Club has served local, national and international communities by creating community spaces, organizing social events and raising funds to support people in need.

WELLINGTON NORTH – Lawyers for Wellington North and a local developer are scheduled to meet next month over an appeal filed to the Ontario Land Tribunal last year. 

WELLINGTON COUNTY – Three local paramedics were among 65 from across the province to receive Governor General Emergency Medical Services Exemplary Service Medal bars at a ceremony at Queen’s Park on Dec. 13.

GUELPH/ERAMOSA – Police say a local member of the Iron Dragons Motorcycle Club was arrested last week and faces over 50 weapon charges and two drug charges.

BRUCEDALE – Guelph/Eramosa residents will see township taxes increase by about 4.93 per cent this year. The township passed its 2024 budget of $20,849,341 on Jan. 15.

ELORA – Centre Wellington council approved a new Community Heritage Grant Program on Jan. 15.

WELLINGTON COUNTY – Each January, the Alzheimer Society leads and supports Canada’s Alzheimer’s Awareness Month – this year’s theme bringing attention to Canadians and breaking the stigma.

FERGUS - A low-pressure system crossing over from the U.S. late on the night of Jan. 12 caused winter storm warnings for much of southern Ontario. According to data from the Shand Dam weather station, 11 centimetres of snow fell overnight between Jan. 12 and 13 in Fergus.

WELLINGTON COUNTY – For many years, some people have dubbed the third Monday in January “Blue Monday” and declared it as the "most depressing" day of the year. Though not true at all, research in Ontario does suggest 15% of the population has experienced the "winter blues."

HARRISTON – Recently retired after nearly 50 years in veterinary medicine, Dr. Terry Fisk has no doubts about his chosen career path. “The only thing I ever wanted to be was a veterinarian," he said.

WELLINGTON COUNTY – A 58-year-old from Erin was charged with four counts of sexual assault on a person under 16, four counts of sexual interference and two counts of committing an indecent act, as well as providing cannabis to a person under 18.

GUELPH – Ideas for promoting the OPP in Wellington County were presented on Wednesday to the county’s Police Services Board (PSB) following discussion last year about perception issues among residents.
