WHSS student wins first place in hurdles at CWOSSA
Declan Lisk moves on to OFSAA championships May 28-29
CAMBRIDGE – Declan Lisk, a Grade 10 student at Wellington Heights Secondary School, won first place in the Junior Boys 100m hurdles at the Central Western Ontario Secondary Schools Association (CWOSSA) championships last week.
CWOSSA is the governing body of all secondary school athletic competitions and its track and field finals were held May 20 to 21 at Jacob Hespeler Secondary School (JHSS) in Cambridge.
Lisk set a new school record by running the 100m hurdles in 14.44 seconds at CWOSSA, and he will move on to compete at the OFSAA (Ontario Federation of School Athletic Associations) West Regional Track and Field Championships at JHSS from May 28 to 29.
Lisk also competed in the Junior Boys 300m hurdles, where he finished third with a time of 41.97 seconds, and in the Junior Boys long jump, coming in sixth with a jump of 5.3m.
Grade 10 WHSS student Justin Obach also competed at CWOSSA in Junior Boys javelin, where he threw 24.02m and finished in 16th place.
At the District 4 Track and Field Championships held May 11 to 12 at the University of Guelph, the Wellington Heights track and field team performed very well, said WHSS principal Brent Bloch in a press release.
Lisk placed first in Junior Boys long jump, setting a new school record of 5.77m.
Obach placed second in Junior Boys javelin, and Liam Nelson had a top five finish in Junior Boys discus.
