Two new Bell cellular, Internet towers may be coming soon to Erin

The obvious lack of cellular service in certain areas of Erin can be a frustrating experience for locals trying to make an important phone call.

But two Bell Mobility towers may provide a much anticipated reprieve from the current situation – not only for cellular customers, but also those without high speed Internet.

Bell Mobility officials are planning to construct a 75-metre communications tower off of County Road 124, southwest of Ospringe, and another at Barbour Field, south of Hillsburgh.

Susan Merrell, real estate manager with Bell Mobility, said the typical coverage area for the towers is 6km and maybe more, depending on the topography of the land.

On Sept. 1, officials held a public meeting for the Ospringe tower, which will be located on a farm at 8823 County Road 124.

A meeting on the Barbour Field tower was held on Sept. 15. Everus Communications has expressed interest in sharing the Barbour Field tower.

Bell Mobility is accepting questions and comments on the Ospringe proposal until Sept. 26, and on the Barbour Field plans until Oct. 3. Interested parties can contact Merrell by fax at 905-282-3102 or by email at semerrell@bell.net.

Merrell said construction of the two towers will likely take place next spring.
