Aboyne Rural Hospice launches new website
'Ride to Remember and Renew' cycling fundraiser set for Sept. 19
FERGUS – The Aboyne Rural Hospice has launched a new website to inform the community about the building process and fundraising efforts for the new hospice.
The website, which includes new images of the planned building, can be found at aboyneruralhospice.org.
“The launch of our redesigned website is yet another amazing milestone in our hospice progress,” stated hospice board of directors co-chair Dr. Sarah Gower in a press release.
“I’m so excited to have this virtual home to showcase our progress as we soon start to prepare our site for building.”
The Ontario Ministry of Health approved the Aboyne Rural Hospice last year, and the County of Wellington donated a two-acre site on the Wellington Campus between Fergus and Elora on Fredrick Campbell Street, near Groves Memorial Community Hospital.
The board of directors hired two staff this year and is actively raising the needed funds to start the building process, officials say.
The new hospice will provide beds for rural Wellington and will include 10 private suites, designed with residents and loved ones in mind, officials say.
The building also includes spaces for families, a play-corner, a kitchen and coffee station, offices and rooms for reflection and rest.
Fundraising has been ongoing and a new cycling event is slated for Sept. 19.
The Ride to Remember and Renew is a fundraising collaboration between Aboyne Rural Hospice and the Elora Cataract Trailway Association.
Participants can sign up to ride 10, 50, 75 or 100km routes, beginning at the Wellington County Museum and Archives.
Together, the hospice and trailway association “believe that strong communities are built on meaningful connections between people and the places they cherish,” officials state.
“Whether you ride or donate to honour a loved one, support local care, or simply enjoy a beautiful day on the trail, this event offers a meaningful opportunity to be part of a truly special partnership.”
Families and all riding abilities are welcome, officials say.
