Wilhelmina Hendrika ‘Willy’ (Remmelink) Grotenhuis of Listowel, formerly of Harriston passed away on Friday, August 21, 2026, in her 96th year. Wife of the late John Grotenhuis. Mother of Everett (Kimberly) Grotenhuis of Harriston, Betty & Jeff Bannerman of Listowel, and Neil & Holly Grotenhuis of Mount Forest, and mother-in-law of Shelley Grotenhuis of Abbottsford, B.C., and Carolyn Grotenhuis of Harriston. Grandmother of Lisa & Jared Unruh, John & Kate Grotenhuis, Don & Maeghan Grotenhuis, Stephanie & Matt Martin, Melissa & Todd Bunker, Katie & Brandon Armstrong, Daryl & Pat Grotenhuis, Shawn & Kelly Grotenhuis, Tim & Jessie Grotenhuis, Tyler & Jessie Bannerman, Jessica & Mitch Rice, Ashley & Noah Geene, Travis (Bry) Bannerman, Nathan & Kailey Grotenhuis, and Danielle & Jason Rohrback. Great-grandmother of 29 and predeceased by 2 great-grandchildren. Sister of Annie Hobelman of Listowel. Predeceased by her husband John Grotenhuis, sons John Grotenhuis and William Grotenhuis, brothers Adolf Remmelink in infancy, Willem Remmelink and his wife Elizabeth, sisters Gerda Meinen and her husband Hennie, Hanna Breukelaar and her husband Theo, Jo Velthorst and her husband Hendrik, Letta Lammers and her husband John, and by her brother-in-law Gerry Hobelman. Mom was born in Plattenstraat, Holland. She married John Grotenhuis in Holland and immigrated to Canada with their youngest son John in 1957. Mom was a faithful member of the Knox Presbyterian Church in Harriston. She worked side by side with Dad on the farm which is now being operated by 4th generation family. Mom loved her family and always looked forward to stories of what all the children and grandchildren were doing. She loved to bake and she loved to sew. Mom also was an avid quilt maker, and made beautiful quilts for each of her grandchildren. She also showed many of her sewing and quilting projects in the local fair. Mom was a very independent woman and she loved to stop and talk to people and genuinely cared how people were doing. She always had a smile for you. Visitation was held at the Hardy-Lee Funeral Home, Harriston on Tuesday from 5:00 to 8:00pm. The funeral service was held at Knox-Calvin Presbyterian Church, Harriston, on Wednesday, August 26, 2026 at 11:00am. The service was livestreamed and the link is available on the funeral home website. Interment in Harriston Cemetery.
