GUELPH – A Palmerston man faces several charges after Guelph Police officers recently stopped a stolen vehicle.

On June 7 just before 7pm, police received reports of a couple arguing in the area of Beechwood Avenue and Waterloo Avenue before fleeing at a high rate of speed. 

“Police located and stopped the vehicle in the area of Wellington Street West and Imperial Road South,” police stated in a press release.

“The Nissan Rogue had been reported stolen earlier in the day from an address in Guelph and the driver was arrested.

“During a search incident to arrest officers located several pieces of identification in various names as well as several licence plates determined to be stolen.”

A 28-year-old Palmerston man was charged with possession of stolen property over $5,000, four counts of possession of stolen property under $5,000, and five counts of possession of identity documents. He is to appear in Guelph court on Aug. 2.

Cannabis cruise with no life jackets?

CENTRE WELLINGTON – On May 28 at about 12:15pm, a Wellington County OPP officer initiated a vessel stop on Belwood Lake here.

A 37-year-old operator from Palmerston was charged with care or control of a boat with cannabis readily available. 

Three passengers on the boat were also charged with personal floatation device violations.

Suspended, uninsured  driver with weed

ARTHUR – On May 26 at about 8:15am, a Wellington County OPP officer initiated a traffic stop of a green minivan on Domville Street here.

A 20-year-old driver from Arthur has been charged with driving while suspended, failing to apply for permit to become an owner, driving without a licence, driving with cannabis readily available and driving without insurance.

The defendant is to appear in Guelph court at a later date.

Suspended, no insurance

MOUNT FOREST – On June 6 at about 10pm, a Wellington County OPP officer stopped the driver of a black SUV on Queen Street West here. 

A 40-year-old driver from Mount Forest was charged with driving while suspended, failing to surrender a permit, driving without proper rear lights and driving without insurance. 

The defendant is to appear in Guelph court at a later date.

Vehicle inspection blitz

CAMBRIDGE – Local police took part in a recent vehicle inspection blitz here that resulted in over 30 charges.

On May 25, Wellington County OPP officers joined  other OPP Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance (CVSA) Inspectors, the Ministry of Transportation, the Ministry of Finance, and Halton Regional Police for a blitz at Townline Road in Cambridge, near Puslinch. 

Police say 42 commercial motor vehicles were inspected, with 15 taken out of service, 24 defects located, 34 charges laid and four plate seizures enforced. 

“The Wellington County OPP would like to thank the various partners that took part in the blitz, and would also like to remind drivers of commercial motor vehicles to always conduct thorough, pre-trip inspections,” police stated in a press release.

Driver, company charged

ELORA – On May 27 at about 10:45am, a Wellington County OPP officer stopped a commercial motor vehicle on Geddes Street here.

A 62-year-old driver from Elora was charged with failing to accurately complete daily inspection report, driving with an uncovered load and obstructing a licence plate.

A construction company from Fergus has been charged with failing to ensure daily inspection reports are accurately completed.
