One dead after serious crash at Highway 6, Wellington Road 22
Crash-prone intersection currently under construction to install roundabout
CENTRE WELLINGTON – One driver is dead and another was airlifted to hospital following a serious two-vehicle crash at Highway 6 and Wellington Road 22 on Thursday.
Emergency crews were called to the collision-prone intersection between Fergus and Guelph at about 12:15pm on Sept. 10.
Wellington County OPP officials say a 74-year-old resident of Fergus was pronounced dead at the scene.
"The other driver, an 82-year-old resident of Elora, who is in serious condition, was transported to a local hospital, and then transported to a trauma centre via air ambulance," police stated in a press release.
The OPP will not identity of the deceased individual "out of respect for the family's privacy."
Wellington Road 22 / 8th line was closed from Campbell Road to Wellington Road 7 and Highway 6 was closed from Wellington Road 51 to 6th line within Ennotville.
Over the past decade, there have been 84 collisions at the crash-prone Highway 6 intersection at the border of Centre Wellington and Guelph/Eramosa.
The intersection is currently under construction to turn it into a roundabout.
