MCGLADREY, J. Brian “Magoo”

Passed away peacefully at Groves Memorial Hospital in Fergus on Sunday, September 6, 2026, at the age of 79. Beloved husband and best friend to his wife, Ruth, with whom he shared 57 wonderful years. Remembered by daughters Colleen and Charlene and sons-in-law Paul and Jeff. Cherished grandfather to Jordan, Hannah, Ethan, Sam, Clayton, Liam, and Eli. Brian is reunited in rest with his parents, Frank and Viola, and his brothers, Ron and Ken. Brian was a man of many talents and relentless work ethic, having dedicated many proud years of service as a maintenance officer with the ministry of corrections and a skilled millwright. Yet to those who knew him best, "Magoo" was defined by his infectious sense of humour, his love for a good practical joke, and his lifelong passion for anything on wheels. Brian had many interests from raising rabbits as a child, to racing stock cars, which transitioned to building classic cars with his friends. His true pride and joy was his prized ’37 Ford, which he lovingly kept on the road since 1976. On weekends you could almost always find him in his shop working on cars and helping friends and neighbours with theirs. He was also a proud member of the Wellington County Rod & Custom Car Club for many years. He was a respected classic car judge and regularly participated in pokers runs and car shows around the province and beyond. Following his retirement, Brian found immense joy serving as a chauffeur for the local Old Order Mennonite community, forging deep, lasting friendships along every mile. Above all his hobbies and pursuits, his greatest love was his family, who will miss his warmth, sharp wit, and steady presence dearly. Visitation will take place at the Graham A. Giddy Funeral Home, 280 St. David Street South, Fergus, on Sunday, September 13, 2026, from 1:00pm– 3:00pm and 6:00pm – 8:00pm, and again on Tuesday, September 15, 2026, from 11:00am – 12:00pm. A funeral service will follow in the chapel at 12:00pm. Guests are invited upstairs to the Wellington Room for a reception immediately following the service (elevator access is available). Interment will take place at Johnson Cemetery in Guelph/Eramosa following the reception. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations made in Brian's honour to the Groves Memorial Hospital Foundation would be greatly appreciated by the family.
