Drinking and driving
MINTO – On Aug. 12 at about 8:30pm, Wellington County OPP officers were conducting proactive traffic enforcement on Highway 6 in Minto when officers saw a speeding vehicle.
Police pulled over the driver and detected signs of impairment.
A 46-year-old Holstein man was charged with driving with more than 80mg of alcohol per 100ml of blood in his system, impaired driving, obstructing police, having an open container of liquor in a vehicle, and speeding.
He is to appear in Guelph court at a later date.
ARTHUR – Three drivers have had their licences suspended after failing breathalyzer tests at RIDE stops in Arthur on Aug. 14.
A 24-year-old Guelph driver registered an “alert” during a check on Smith Street at around 9:30pm.
At around 10:15pm on the same street, a 54-year-old Belfountain driver also registered an alert.
Later that night, at around 10:45pm, on Wells Street West, 18-year-old failed a breathalyzer test. The Kenilworth driver was charged with having a blood alcohol concentration above zero.
Each of the drivers’ licences was suspended for seven days.
Police are reminding drivers that any amount of alcohol or drugs impairs judgement and reaction time when operating vehicles.
