Police beat: ‘Partner violence’ call

MINTO – A Minto resident has been charged following what police are calling “an intimate partner violence investigation.”

 On Feb. 27 at about 2pm, Wellington County OPP responded to an address in Minto. Police say a 21-year-old  from Minto was charged with mischief and is to appear in Guelph court on April 28. 

“Victims of intimate partner violence/sexual assault are not alone,” police stated in a press release.

“If you, or someone you know needs support, there are local resources such as Victim Services Guelph-Wellington that can help.”  

Officer assaulted

CENTRE WELLINGTON – An Orangeville man faces several charges, including assaulting a police officer, following an incident here last week.

On March 3 at about  12:30am a Wellington County OPP officer stopped to assist a motorist on Highway 6, south of Fergus. 

“Two parties were standing along the highway next to a white coupe with its hazard lights activated,” police stated in a press release.

One person was aprehended, and another got away in the vehicle, according to police.

Randall John Cormier, 38, of Orangeville, was charged with obstructing a peace officer, assaulting a peace officer, assault with intent to resist arrest and possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking.

Car stolen

MOUNT FOREST – On Feb. 23 at about 11:30pm, Wellington County OPP responded to a report that a grey 2006 Acura sedan was stolen from a home here while it idled.

Careless driving

GUELPH/ERAMOSA – On Feb. 25 at about 2:15pm, emergency crews responded to a report of a single vehicle collision on Wellington Road 124. 

Wellington County OPP officials say a passenger vehicle struck a hydro pole, “causing significant damage. The occupants of the vehicle were uninjured.”

 An 18-year-old of London was charged with careless driving and is to appear in Guelph court on May 17.
