Police beat: OPP seeking help to solve Puslinch gas station robbery

ABERFOYLE – Police are asking for help to identify the man responsible for robbing a gas station here.

On Feb. 19 at about 5:40am, Wellington County OPP officers responded to a robbery on Brock Road South just north of Highway 401 in Aberfoyle.

Police say a male suspect demanded cash from an employee of the gas station store.

“The clerk was threatened, however, no weapon was observed,” police stated in a press release.

“The suspect stole an undisclosed amount of currency and was last seen entering a black sedan with dark tinted windows and black spoked rims.”

Police described the suspect as a tall Caucasian with a medium build, wearing a black hoody with an orange hood (with a grey sweatshirt underneath), black pants and white running shoes.

Update on thefts from vehicles

ERIN – On Feb. 5, Wellington County OPP received numerous reports of thefts from vehicles in the Church Boulevard and Erin Heights Drive areas of Erin.

Items reported stolen include chemotherapy medications, a cell phone, laptops and currency.

Police say they have recovered property that may be potentially related to the above thefts and are asking anyone whose vehicle was entered to call Wellington County OPP at 1-888-310-1122.

Odd intrusion

MINTO – Police have charged a man they say unlawfully entered a home here while “heavily intoxicated” and then “spat mucus” in the back of a police cruiser after his arrest.

On Feb. 13 at about 3:55pm the Wellington County OPP responded to a vehicle in the ditch on Wellington Road 87 in the Town of Minto.

Police say officers located the vehicle and followed footprints in the snow from the vehicle up to a house, where they located the alleged driver.

“It was confirmed that the heavily intoxicated person did not have permission or authority to be in the house and was placed under arrest,” police stated in a press release. On the way to the police station the accused “spat mucus throughout the rear of the police vehicle,” police state.

Dustin Robert Zolnai, 31, of Grey Highlands, was charged with unlawfully being in a dwelling and mischief. He is to appear in Guelph court on March 20.

Fake $100 bills

GUELPH – The Guelph Police Service has noticed a recent increase in the number of counterfeit $100 bills circulating in Guelph.

Police say that since the beginning of February, there have been 15 reported incidents of suspected counterfeit currency in Guelph.

“There is currently concern that more businesses might unknowingly be in possession of other counterfeit bills if they have not yet tried to deposit them in a bank,” police stated in a press release. “Employees, owners of businesses and members of the public should take extra care in verifying that the bills being presented have the proper security features.”
