Police beat: OPP looking for driver in hit and run that injured teen cyclist

MINTO – Police are looking for help to identify the female driver involved in a hit and run here that left a teen cyclist injured.

Wellington County OPP officials say the incident, involving an “older model sedan,” took place on Feb. 25 at about 7pm on Wellington Road 6 near Sideroad 7 in the Town of Minto.

“The driver of the sedan stopped briefly and spoke to the injured teenager before getting back in their vehicle,” police stated in a press release.

Police say the 14-year-old cyclist was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries and is in stable condition.

The vehicle, last seen travelling north on Wellington Road 6, is described as an older model, dark-coloured sedan similar to a Chrysler Neon that will have damage on the front passenger side.

The driver is described as a woman in her 20s with dark hair and glasses.

Police looking for thief thwarted by truck owner

WELLINGTON NORTH – Police are looking to identify the man responsible for attempting to steal a pickup truck here last week.

On Feb. 27 at about 4pm Wellington County OPP received a report of theft that occurred at a gas bar on Wellington Road 109, near Arthur.

Police say someone tried to steal a pickup truck that was left with the keys in it, while the owner was inside the store.

“Witnessing the theft, the owner leapt into the bed of the truck, smashed out the back window and attempted to intervene,” police stated in a press release

“The suspect stopped the vehicle on George Street and fled on foot.”

The OPP is seeking help to identify the suspect (see left photo), described as a white man in his mid-20s wearing  blue jeans, a dark Hurley top and dark backpack.

 

 

Elderly man finds intruder in home

CENTRE WELLINGTON – On March 2, Wellington County OPP received a report of an intruder at a residence on White Bark Way, in Pine Meadows, near Belwood.

Police say that at about 10:30am the victim, a 90-year-old man, found a strange man in his home rummaging through belongings.

When confronted, the lone suspect stated he was there to do repairs.

When the suspect went to get a business card from his vehicle, he  drove away.

The suspect is described as a white male in his 40s with grey hair and facial stubble, approximately 5’6” (168cm) with a slim build.

The suspect fled in a white pickup truck with an ‘X’ on the back and the word “Restoration” or something similar on the side.

“Witnesses also report that the suspect had a familiarity about [him] and [may have been] soliciting driveway paving in the area during the summer of 2019,” police stated.

The victim discovered that about $1,000 in currency was taken from his home.
