Police beat: Child porn charges

GUELPH – A Guelph man faces child pornography charges after officers searched a west-end home last Thursday.

The Guelph Police Service Internet Child Exploitation (ICE) Unit began an investigation in January into allegations of child sexual abuse images being shared online.

Police say officers with the ICE and Technological Crimes units executed a warrant at a home near Elmira Road South and Fife Road on Feb. 29.

“Evidence was found and several electronic storage devices were seized for further examination,” police stated in a press release.

A 55-year-old Guelph man was charged with possessing child pornography, accessing child pornography and distributing child pornography. He is to appear in court March 19.

Four arrested in drug bust

LISTOWEL – A Wellington County man is among four people charged after a drug bust here last week.

On Feb. 29, Perth County OPP officers, along with the Huron-Perth Community Street Crime Unit (CSCU), West Region Emergency Response Team and Canine Unit made a number of arrests following a drug trafficking investigation in North Perth.

Police say three people arrested on Wallace Avenue North in Listowel were found in possession of fentanyl, methamphetamine, cocaine and hydromorphone, as well as drug trafficking paraphernalia, cash and brass knuckles.

Police also executed three search warrants at two residences on Wallace Avenue North and Elm Avenue North, and at a storage unit on Fairlane Road, all in Listowel.

Police say another individual was arrested and officers seized fentanyl, methamphetamine, cocaine, hydromorphone, oxycodone, and drug trafficking paraphernalia. The total estimated value of the drugs is approximately $15,000. The total estimated value of the seized property is $1,200.

Michael Foster, 38, of Guelph/Eramosa, was charged with unauthorized possession of weapon and failing to comply with a probation order. He is to appear in Stratford court on March 25.

The other people charged, all from North Perth, were:

– Shane Park, 37, with    mischief (under $5,000), possession of a Schedule I substance (cocaine) and three counts of possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking (methamphetamine, fentanyl and other opioid);

– Tracey-Lynn Duncan, 38, with three counts of possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking (methamphetamine, fentanyl and other opioid); and

– Nikole Vernon, 38, with four counts of possession of a Schedule I substance (methamphetamine, fentanyl and other opioids).

Park and Duncan were held in custody pending a bail hearing. Vernon is to appear in Stratford court on April 22.

Didn’t clear off snow

HARRISTON – A local man has been charged for failing to properly clear snow from his vehicle’s windows.

On Feb. 19 at about 1:45pm a Wellington County OPP officer monitoring traffic on Elora Street South in  Harriston saw a red SUV “with a heavy amount of snow on the windshield.” 

A 37-year-old driver from Harriston was charged with driving while suspended, not having a clear view to the front and failing to notify officials of a change of address.

The defendant is to appear in Guelph court on May 15.

Dozens of charges for driver, business

MAPLETON – A tractor-trailer driver and business from Brampton are facing a combined 31 charges, after failing a vehicle inspection here.

Wellington County OPP officials say an officer inspected a white tractor-trailer on Wellington Road 7 on Feb. 20 at about  10:30am.

A 36-year-old driver from Brampton was charged with numerous Highway Traffic Act offences, including driving a commercial vehicle with a major defect, improper tires and failing to properly secure a load.

A Brampton business faces numerous charges, including  including failing to ensure daily inspections are conducted properly and failing to ensure performance standards are met.
