Break-in, theft

FERGUS – One person is facing criminal charges after Wellington County OPP officers were called to a local business regarding a break-in. 

On Sept. 21, the Wellington County OPP responded to a report of a break-in at a business on St. David Street North in Fergus. 

Police say that on Sept. 15 and 20, containers on the property were broken into and several items were stolen. 

Laura Jane Davis, 41, of Stratford, was charged with break and enter to commit an indictable offence and with theft under $5,000. She is to appear in Guelph court at a later date.

Dogs bite

FERGUS – A dog owner here is facing charges after their dogs got loose and bit two separate individuals.

On Sept. 22, Wellington County OPP officers responded to a report of an animal complaint on Duncan Court in Fergus.

Police say four dogs that were loose and “running around the neighbourhood” bit and injured two individuals. 

A 44-year-old Fergus resident was charged with two counts of failing to prevent a dog from biting or attacking a person or domestic animal. 

The defendant is to appear in Guelph court at a later date.

Driving, insurance charges

FERGUS – On Sept. 17 at about 11:30pm, an officer with the Wellington County OPP observed a blue pickup truck turning onto Belsyde Avenue East. 

Police say that “as the pickup truck turned it squealed its tires and drifted side to side several times.”

A 20-year-old driver from Troy was charged with stunt driving and failing to have an insurance card.

The defendant is to appear in Guelph court at a later date. 

Distracted driver

WELLINGTON COUNTY – Police have charged a commercial truck driver who was hauling “dangerous” goods with distracted driving.

On Sept. 22, a Wellington County OPP officer observed the driver of a commercial motor vehicle with a cellular device in their hand. 

“The driver was hauling dangerous goods,” police stated.

 A 60-year-old driver from Brampton was charged with driving with a handheld communication device. The company was charged with allowing a person to drive a commercial motor vehicle not in accordance with the regulations.

The defendants are to appear in Guelph court at a later date.

No muffler

GUELPH/ERAMOSA – On Sept. 4 at about 9am, a Wellington County OPP officer stopped the driver of a white pickup truck on Highway 6 here. 

An 18-year-old driver from Elora was charged with driving a vehicle that violates  emission regulations, driving without a muffler and driving with missing emission control equipment. 

The driver is to appear in Guelph court at a later date.

Suspended driver

FERGUS – On Sept. 5 at about 8pm, a Wellington County OPP officer stopped the driver of a black sedan on Colquhoun Street here.

A 28-year-old from Brampton was charged with failing to comply with a probation order and two counts of driving while suspended.  

The accused is to appear in Guelph court at a later date.

Another suspended driver

GUELPH – On Sept. 6 at about 12:15am, a Wellington County OPP officer stopped the operator of a modified e-bike on York Road here.

A 41-year-old driver from Guelph was charged with three counts of driving while suspended and is to appear in Guelph court at a later date.
