Police beat: Assault, threat charges for Mount Forest man

MOUNT FOREST – A local man has been charged with assault with a weapon and uttering threats following an incident here last week.

Wellington County OPP officials say police were called to “an altercation at an address in Mount Forest” on April 14 at about 7:15pm.

A 20-year-old from Mount Forest was charged with assault with a weapon, assault and uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm.

“The victim did not sustain any reported injuries,” police stated in a press release.

The accused was released from police custody and is to appear in Guelph court at a later date.

“The name of the accused is being withheld out of concern for their well being,” police stated.

Teen assault charge

FERGUS – A teenager from Fergus is facing weapon charges after an incident here last week.

Wellington County OPP officials say police were called to “a disturbance” on Scotland Street in Fergus involving “several” youths.

“No injuries were reported. There is no threat to the public as police believe this was an isolated incident,” police stated in a press release.

A 16-year-old from Fergus was charged with assault with a weapon and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.

The accused is to appear in Guelph court at a later date.

Careless driving

MAPLETON – A Kitchener driver has been charged in connection with a recent crash here that sent four people to hospital.

Emergency crews responded to the two-vehicle collision on Highway 6, between Sideroads 18 and 19 in Mapleton Township, on April 13 at about 3:45pm.

Wellington County OPP officials say “one vehicle attempted to pass another vehicle and collided into a ditch.” 

They added, “Four individuals were transported to a local hospital, two with minimal injuries, one with minor, non-life-threatening injuries and one with major, non-life-threatening injuries.”

A 58-year-old from Kitchener was charged with two counts of careless driving causing bodily harm and is to appear in Guelph court at a later date.

More carelessness

GUELPH/ERAMOSA – A  Fergus resident is charged with careless driving after a vehicle rollover here last week.

Emergency crews responded to the intersection of Wellington Road 51 and Highway 6 in Guelph/Eramosa on April 13 at about 7:45pm.

Wellington County OPP officials say an SUV “was driving in a careless manner while navigating a turn in the road ... they lost control and rolled their vehicle multiple times off the roadway.

“The driver sustained serious, non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to local hospital by ambulance.”

Highway 6 was closed between Wellington Roads 22 and 51 for several hours.

A 21-year-old of Fergus was charged with careless driving.

Copper wire theft attempt

PUSLINCH – Police are encouraging the public to be “vigilant and report suspected copper wire theft in the community” following an incident here last week.

Wellington County OPP officials say police were called to a copper telecommunications wire theft on Lake Road in Puslinch Township on April 14 at about 6:15pm.

“An unknown male suspect was observed on an e-bike collecting approximately 25 metres of wire from the shoulder of the roadway,” police stated in a press release.

“The suspect left prior to police arrival.”

The OPP “urges the public to report any suspicious activity near telecom infrastructure to help protect these vital services.”

Residential break-in

MOUNT FOREST – Police are looking for help to identify the person(s) responsible for a break-in and theft at a residence last weekend.

Wellington County OPP officials say police were called to a break-in at a vacant residence on Birmingham Street West in Mount Forest that occurred sometime between April 17 and 19.

“It was reported that an unknown suspect entered the building and took various wires and copper pipes from panels and walls within the building,” police stated in a press release.

False identity

GUELPH/ERAMOSA – An Guelph man has been charged after providing a  false identification to police.

Wellington County OPP officials say police were called about “a suspicious person” at a business on Wellington Road 124 in Guelph/Eramosa on April 16 at about 12:30am.

“Upon police arrival, the individual was located and provided false identification to police,” stated an OPP press release.

A 27-year-old Guelph man was charged with identity fraud, obstructing  a peace officer and two counts of failing to comply with a release order.

The accused was held in police custody pending a bail hearing.
