Police beat: Arson, assault with a weapon
WELLINGTON NORTH – A Durham man is facing arson, weapon and other charges in connection with an incident last Tuesday.
Wellington County OPP officials say police responded on April 28 at about 6am to “a disturbance” at a home near Mount Forest, “where a victim sustained minor injuries.”
Michael Woods, 40, of Durham, was charged with:
– arson (damage to property);
– possession of weapon for dangerous purpose;
– assault with a weapon;
– impaired driving;
– uttering threats; and
– mischief (destroy/damage property).
He is to appear in Guelph court on June 12.
Two break-ins, thefts
ERIN – Police are seeking help to find the person(s) responsible for two break-ins and thefts from a home in Erin.
Wellington County OPP officials say police were called to a break-in on Trafalgar Road south of Brisbane on April 28 at about 2am.
Police say that sometime between 6pm on April 27 and 2am on April 28, someone entered the residence through an unlocked window and stole an assortment of personal property.
“At this time, the complaint also reported that another break-in occurred at the same residence [around April 17], where one or more unidentified individual(s) stole jewelry and electronics,” stated an April 29 press release from the OPP.
Hit and run, careless
GUELPH/ERAMOSA – A Guelph resident has been charged with careless driving in connection with a hit-and-run- crash here last week.
Wellington County OPP officials say emergency crews responded to a two-vehicle collision near the intersection of Highway 6 and Wellington Road 7 in Guelph/Eramosa on April 27 at about 10:30pm.
“When officers arrived on scene, the investigation revealed that a dark-coloured sedan had collided into a pickup truck and then fled the scene in a northbound direction,” police stated in an April 30 press release.
“After further information was obtained from nearby witnesses, the investigation led to officers attending a nearby property and locating the sedan in question, with heavy front-end damage, and ultimately locating the driver.”
A 27-year-old from Guelph was charged with careless driving and failing to remain at the scene of a crash. The accused is to appear in Guelph court at a later date.
“No injuries were reported,” police stated.
Pickup stolen
MORRISTON – Police are asking for help to locate a stolen pickup truck and identify the person(s) responsible.
Wellington County OPP officials say police were called about a vehicle stolen from a carpool parking lot on Queen Street in Morriston on April 27 at 7pm.
Police say the vehicle was taken sometime between 1pm on April 25 and the morning of April 27.
It is described as a silver 2008 Dodge Ram 2500 diesel pickup truck with a six-speed manual transmission, four-inch suspension lift and 37-inch tires, bearing licence plate BK17404.
Partner violence
WELLINGTON COUNTY – Local police continue to lay intimate partner violence charges across the county.
Those arrested include a 75-year-old from Erin, who was charged with spousal assault and two counts of uttering threats (to cause death or bodily harm) in relation to an incident in Erin on April 29;
The accused is to appear in Guelph court at a later date.
