‘Koop’ Spence helped save lives of fellow soldiers during Dieppe disaster
ERIN - Late Hillsburgh resident Keith “Koop” Spence was just 21 on Aug. 19, 1942 when he stepped foot on a rocky coastal beach firing his gun in a futile effort at well-fortified German forces in Dieppe. He would survive what became a massacre to help save the lives of fellow soldiers.
