Ian Bell to play Basement Café at Harriston library on April 21

HARRISTON – The Minto Arts Council’s next Basement Café concert will feature the multi-talented Ian Bell.

Bell, a native of Waterford, will perform at the Harriston public library basement on April 21 at 8 pm.

Arts council officials note Bell is a musician, visual artist and former museum curator who plays guitar, banjo, button accordion and a host of other instruments.

“Our opening act is always a local up-and-coming musical talent. We welcome Bernie Hale, an aspiring composer, singer-songwriter and actor,” officials state.

Hale, a Grade 10 student at Norwell District Secondary School, recently performed with MooreBand at the group’s Feb. 14 concert at the Harriston Town Hall Theatre.

As a folk musician Bell has performed solo or with a number of groups across Canada and in the United States since the late 1970s.  He was a regular musical contributor to Stuart McLean’s Vinyl Café, Fresh Air and other CBC radio programs. Following the release of three CDs of original material, Ian has created two recordings of traditional songs and tunes – My Pious Friends & Drunken Companions and his latest, Forget Me Not When Far Away – a collection of songs about the Great Lakes.

Bell’s latest CD is a just-released live collection of songs and stories, Saturday Night in Villa Nova. Visit www.ianbellmusic.ca for more information.

Tickets are $25 and available at the Harriston Home Hardware, Eventbrite or at the door.

The Harriston library is located at 88 Mill Street.
