Filmmaker Chandler Levak to attend Palmerston screening of I like Movies

PALMERSTON – A question and answer session with Canadian filmmaker Chandler Levak will be held following the Big Film Fest screening of I Like Movies here on May 15.

Written and directed by Levack, I Like Movies is set in the early 2000s in Burlington, Ontario. Teenage cinephile Lawrence Kweller (Isaiah Lehtinen) dreams of attending film school at NYU.

Meanwhile, he gets his dream job at the local video store. Self-absorbed, he alienates his best friend and his single mother while developing a complicated friendship with his older female manager.  He often proves to be his own worst enemy, leading to situations for which the teen is ill-prepared.

“Demonstrating tremendous understanding and affection for obsessives, Levack thoughtfully details his coming of age thanks to the women in his life,” states a Big Film Fest press release.

I Like Movies screens at 7:15pm on May 15 at the Norgan Theatre.

“We are pleased to have director, Chandler Levack on hand for a Q & A after the film,” officials state.

Levak grew up in Burlington and lives in Toronto.  She studied cinema at the University of Toronto and screen writing at the Canadian Film Centre. She has directed numerous music videos, earning two Juno Award nominations.

A veteran arts journalist and critic, she has contributed to such publications as the Globe and Mail and the Village Voice.

I Like Movies is her feature debut and has already played at TIFF, the Vancouver Film Festival and is now in limited release.

The Big Film Fest is presented by the Minto Arts Council, in partnership with the Norgan Theatre and the Town of Minto on the third Monday of each month, excluding July, August and December.

The films are presented by the film circuit division of the Toronto International Film Festival, which brings quality Canadian and international films to communities across Canada that would not otherwise have the opportunity to see such features.

All screenings are held at the Norgan Theatre, 275 Main St. W., Palmerston at 7:15pm. Admission is $10.
