Elora Festival Book Sale volunteers ready to take donations

FERGUS – The sale isn’t until May, but organizers of the annual Elora Festival Book Sale are now accepting donations of books.

The volunteer team was busy the morning of Feb. 27 organizing books into categories, pulling out books in poor condition for recycling, and packaging them up for transport to the book sale in May.

Volunteer Karen Eddie said volunteers collected 1,600 boxes of books last year and raised $60,000 for the Elora Festival through the sale.

They currently have about 700 boxes of books.

“So we’re half-way there,” she said. “But we need more books.”

Volunteers work in the basement of 380 St. Andrew St. West, on the south side of St. Andrew Street by Maiden Lane with access through a side entrance. Outside is the book shed, which is unlocked, and book donations can be left there at any time.

Organizers also accept CDs, DVDs, LPs, board games and puzzles. They do not accept textbooks, encyclopedias or magazines.

The sale will run May 5 to  7 at the Elora Curling Club.

Sale officials could also use more volunteers, Eddie said, both for sorting ahead of the sale and during the sale itself.

Volunteers generally meet Monday mornings.
