Drayton Fair highlights pioneer-style farming, modern agriculture Nicole BeswitherickAugust 17, 2023 @ 8:10 amCommunity News Add to Favourites Photo by Nicole Beswitherick Branding – Last weekend’s Drayton Fair featured a station at which kids could watch and learn how to brand pieces of log, which they also got to cut themselves. ABOVE: An instructor helps a child cut off a piece of log. The child then chose which pattern he would like branded into the log and once the instructor got the metal hot, they placed it in the spot for branding. BELOW: The metal was held on the log for about a minute to ensure the branding showed well on the piece of wood. Photos by Nicole Beswitherick Dairy show – A dairy show on Aug. 12 gave participants a chance to show off their livestock at the Drayton Fair. Dairy show stars — The dairy show was already over by the time 2:30pm rolled around, however the stars of the show stuck around awhile longer for visitors. Photo by Nicole Beswitherick Fun and games — The Drayton Fair included numerous activities for children such as this one, where youngsters tried to knock each other off separate platforms. First place — Located inside the barn were displays of flowers and flower bouquets which were entered in the fair. This lily was entered by Nicole Bridge and placed first. Photo by Nicole Beswitherick Stuffed friend — Many kids were in attendance at the Drayton fair enjoying the fun and games which were provided with no cost. This child was carrying her stuffed friend around the fair, running trying to catch up to her family. Photo by Nicole Beswitherick A magical time — Also located inide the barn on Aug. 12 with the exhibits was a magic show that ran at 2:30 and 4:30pm. Photo by Nicole Beswitherick Candy — There were several options for food and snacks at the Drayton fair as there was a truck for poutine, fries and other fun foods. However, the more sought after stand by the kids was the one selling icecream which was beside another stand filled with candy. Photo by Nicole Beswitherick DRAYTON — Through Aug. 11 to 13, Drayton held its annual fair at the Drayton Fairgrounds on 49 Elm Street.
