DOWNS, Johnson Wayne “John”
It is with deep sadness that the family of John Downs announces his sudden passing on October 25, 2026, at the age of 66. John was the beloved husband of Pat Downs (née Maude), loving father of Matt and his wife Crystal Downs, and cherished grandfather and best friend of Josie Downs. John was a hardworking and devoted family man who loved his family deeply. At the age of 60, he retired to enjoy the simple pleasures in life and spend more time doing the things he loved. Whether he was casting a fishing line, taking pride in a freshly cut lawn, or enjoying a quiet day at home feeding the chipmunks, John found happiness in life’s little moments. But above all else, his greatest joy was being a Grampa to Josie. John treasured every moment he spent with his granddaughter. From the daily school drop-offs and pick-ups, where he affectionately became a “Grampa” to many of Josie’s friends, to cheering her on from the sidelines, he was a constant and loving presence in her life. Whether sitting in the arena watching ringette, cheering from the stands at a baseball game, or finding a comfortable spot on the grass beside the soccer field, John was always there, proudly supporting Josie in everything she did. He rarely missed an opportunity to be part of her world, and these moments brought him immeasurable happiness. Josie was truly his pride and joy, and the special bond they shared will forever be cherished. He will be deeply missed by his siblings Marilyn, Len (Robin), and Mary (Steve); his sisters-in-law Celia, Cathy, Eloise, Dianne , Janine (John), Bev (Greg), Robin (Doug), and brother-in law Bob (Susan); and his dear niece Madison. John will also be fondly remembered and lovingly missed by his many nieces and nephews. John is now reunited with his beloved daughters, Dana (1986) and Katrina (1988). He was predeceased by his father, Robert Mark Downs; his mother, Jean Kathleen Downs (née Bayne); and his parents-in-law, Bob and Doris Maude. Also his siblings Bill, Bob, Shirley, Earlene and Donny; his brothers-in-law Roger and Terry. A Celebration of John’s Life will be held on Wednesday, November 4th at the Fergus Legion, 500 Blair Street, Fergus, from 1pm to 4pm. Words of Tribute will take place at 2:30pm. In memory of John, memorial donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the SickKids Foundation. Arrangements have been entrusted to Graham A. Giddy Funeral Home.
