Building activity in Guelph-Eramosa Township continues to be strong this year, as evidenced by impressive numbers for the month of May.
“[It’s] the best month we’ve had probably in 20 years,” chief building official Mike Newark told council last week.
Newark’s report showed 23 building permits were issued in May, with a total value of construction of $3,232,500.
As of May 31, the township has issued 73 permits in 2012, with a total value of construction of almost $6.2 million. Last year for the same period the totals were 51 permits issued and just over $1.93 million in construction. In 2010, the figures were 71 and almost $4.62 million respectively.
Newark said building activity doesn’t seem to be slowing down either.
“It should be a good year,” he said, noting June was also a busy month for his department.
Councillor Doug Breen said it is nice to see construction other than residential projects happening in the township.
For example, in May there were two industrial/commercial projects – one new building and one addition or renovation – as well as four agricultural projects.
