Ariss and Maryhill Lions sponsor golf tournament

The Ariss and Maryhill Lions Club are holding its third annual Brian Nichol Memorial Golf Tournament Sept. 26 at the Beaverdale Golf and Country Club, Kossuth Rd., Cambridge.

Chair, Lion Bruce Kurtz said Guelph Kia has accepted an invitation to participate in this year’s tournament by sponsoring the Hole-in-One contest.

Steve Jeles, general manager of Guelph Kia said, “We are very happy to be invited to participate in this local Lions Club fundraiser.”

He went on to add, “Guelph Kia will provide to the winner of the Hole-in-One contest, a 2015 Kia Forte vehicle.”

Each golfer registering for this memorial tournament will get one shot at a Hole-in-One. The first golfer to achieve this will receive the vehicle.

Plans are well on the way for the sixth annual Ariss and Maryhill Lions Club Family Fun Day for Feb. 16, which will once again be held at the Gryphon Field House at the University of Guelph.

The club held its second annual Purina Walk for Dog Guides June 7 with 33 dogs attending and a little over $5,000 raised.

The monthly Fish Fry will continue starting Oct. 16 at the Heritage Park Community Centre in Maryhill from 4 to 8pm with takeout available.

The club’s first sponsored Lions Foundation of Canada Dog Guide graduated Nov. 20, 2014. It is the club’s hope that the second dog sponsored by the club trained as a canine vision dog guide will graduate within the next 12 months.

The club’s first meeting for the next Lions year will be held Sept. 8. This will be a Past Presidents Bring a Guest, Spouses and Awards dinner.

The club meets the second and fourth Tuesday each month at the Heritage Park Community Centre, 52 St Charles St. E., Maryhill.

Anyone in Ariss, Maryhill and surrounding areas has an interest in serving their community with the club, they are invited to join.
