Wellness night open house at the Grove highlights supports for youth, families
GUELPH – The Grove Hub at 737 Woolwhich St. in Guelph opened its doors to the community on April 22 for a wellness night open house to showcase supports for youth and families.
The event was organized by the Canadian Mental Health Association’s (CMHA) youth council, which is a group of people aged 16 to 25 who offer their perspectives on how best to support young people.
Council member Victoria Le said the group offers advice to local organizations supporting youth to help them hit their targets, such as whether their messaging around drugs and substance abuse are getting through.
The group also offers advice to high schools and universities.
Le said she volunteered to be part of the group because she wants to share her experience and voice, and encourages others to do the same.
The open house was the first event the group has organized since it formed in September, Le said, and it was “all about giving people an in to what the Grove is.”

The public were invited inside to browse booths, participate in activities and get familiar with the services offered at the Grove.
Le said she hopes the event helped to “break stigma about mental health.”
The themes of the activities offered gentle introductions to tough subjects, she explained, such as the mock-tail making station which was an opportunity to talk about substance abuse; and the cell phone charm safety which offered a chance to chat about online safety.
