Guelph General Hospital welcomes new general surgeon
GUELPH – This month Dr. Matthew Cornacchia joins the Guelph General Hospital team as a general surgeon with a sub-speciality in colorectal conditions.
Cornacchia completed his General Surgery residency at the University of Ottawa in 2025, followed by subspecialty training in colorectal surgery at Western University in 2026.
“One of the things I find most inspiring about medicine is how humbling it is. The breadth of knowledge is enormous, and despite years of training, there is always more to learn,” Cornacchia stated in a press release.
“Medicine requires you to continually evolve throughout your career as new evidence, technologies and techniques emerge.
“I find that lifelong learning incredibly rewarding, particularly because what we learn ultimately translates into better care for our patients,” he continued.
This has been a period of memorable transition for the family – just after moving and starting a new position, their youngest son was born at Guelph General Hospital.
“We are thrilled to have Cornacchia join our team of nine general surgeons and support his aspirations to provide comprehensive surgical care while bringing additional colorectal expertise to Guelph-Wellington,” stated Guelph General Hospital interim chief of staff Dr. Ken Reed.
