Wellington hosts Winter Wipeout tournament

Wellington Roller Derby hosted its fifth annual Winter Wipeout tournament May 6 at two venues in Mount Forest: Victory Church Arena and Mount Forest District Sports Complex.  

Twelve teams from across southwestern Ontario took to the track to battle it out for the coveted trophy and bragging rights.

This year’s champs were the Killer Queens from Guelph’s Royal City Roller Girls.  

Coming in second was the Atom Smashers  (2015 champs) and third was Guelph’s other team in the tournament, Violet Uprising

 The teams in the tournament were:

 – Durham Region Roller Derby – Atom Smashers;

– Sarnia Roller Derby – Chinstraps;

– Grey Bruce Roller Derby- Highland Dames;

– Tri-City Roller Derby (Kitchener) – Vicious Dishes;

– Peterborough Area Roller Derby (PARDy) – Riverside Riot Squad;

– Royal City Roller Derby (Guelph) – Violet Uprising;

– Royal City Roller Derby  – Killer Queens;

– Hamilton Area Roller Derby – Los Conos;

– Northumberland Roller Derby – Ganaraskas Grave Diggers;

– Belleville Roller Derby – Belleville Bombshells;

– Renegade Derby Dames (Alliston) – Bombshell Battalion; and

– Woodstock Roller Derby – Roller Derby Misfit

The Wellington Roller Derby has a home game July 29 at the Mount Forest Sports Complex  at 6pm against Sudbury’s Sister Slag.  

There will also be a wiener dog race that evening.
