MINTO – The Wellington Heights Secondary School (WHSS) golf team won the District 4 Championship on Sept. 30 at Pike Lake Golf Course.

The team, composed of Callum McDonald, Ryerson Corley, Chase Hornibrook and Nolan Cummings, combined to defeat the golf team from Norwell District Secondary School by one stroke.

This is the second consecutive year WHSS has won the District 4 Golf Championship.

The other Wellington Heights foursome included Brody Gagnon, Graydon Moyer, Gibson Young and Liam Aitken, who finished eighth as a team in the tournament.

McDonald had the overall best score in the District 4 tournament with a 72 to take home first place in the individual scores.

Gagnon had the second-best score for WHSS at 83, and finished 10th overall in the individual competition.

The team was coached by teachers Blair Klemp and Matt Timberlake.

The team travelled to Victoria Park East Golf Club on Oct. 5 for the CWOSSA Boys Golf Championship, and battled cool, windy conditions for nearly six hours and finished 13th overall out of 30 teams that competed.

McDonald had the best score once again for the Wolverines and finished tied for fifth overall in a field of over 130 golfers.
