Wellington-Halton Hills MPP Ted Arnott reintroduces resolution on Morriston bypass

Wellington-Halton Hills MPP Ted Arnott has tabled once again a resolution in the Ontario Legislature calling upon the Minister of Transportation to put the Morriston bypass onto his Ministry’s five year plan for highway construction.

“My resolution is intended to highlight the importance of the Morriston bypass project to our community and to continue to put pressure on the Government,” said Arnott.  “I want to make sure that the need for the bypass is on the Minister’s mind as he develops his new five year plan after the provincial budget.”

Arnott tabled the resolution on Feb. 19, the very first day that the House resumed sitting after the four month prorogation.  It is the first Private Member’s Motion listed on the Legislative Assembly’s Order Paper.

The resolution is identical to one which Arnott brought forward in the Legislature last October.  That resolution died on the Order Paper when the Legislature was prorogued on Oct. 15. Arnott noted that for years, the project has the strong support of the Township of Puslinch Council.

“Successive Township Councils and staff have been working hard for many years to point out why this bypass is needed,” said Arnott.  “I want to continue to work with and support Township Council as we build a case to move this project forward.”  In the meantime, Arnott and Township of Puslinch Mayor Dennis Lever are asking the Ministry of Transportation to introduce traffic calming measures to increase safety for local residents.

“While we firmly believe that the real solution to the economic impact of the Morriston situation is the building of the by-pass, we have been very pleased with the co-operation from the MTO in addressing some of the safety issues in the village,” said Mayor Lever.

Arnott says he’ll continue to look for opportunities to get the Government to listen.

“In my experience, you have to build your case, you have to present it persistently, and you have to build partnerships.  That’s what we’re trying to do with the Morriston bypass,” Arnott said.
