Vigil planned for Orlando shooting victims

A vigil in honour of the 49 victims of the Orlando Pulse Night Club shooting is being held here on June 24 at 8:30pm.

In the wake of the largest mass shooting in U.S. history, Minto community members are invited to gather to honour the memory of those who lost their lives in the attack.

“In a small, rural town such as Minto, there is not much awareness or acknowledgement of issues facing the LGBTQ community,” states Caitlin Hall, one of the organizers.

“[We] are hoping to create space for those grieving and feeling vulnerable to come together and represent Minto as a community that celebrates and embraces uniqueness, be it sexual orientation, race, religion or cultural differences.”

The vigil will take place at Tannery Park in downtown Harriston from 8:30 to 9:30pm and will include music and readings and be concluded with a candlelight vigil.

Everyone is welcome.
