Trust account opened for Ava

Members of the community here are doing what they can to help raise funds to assist in the medical care for the child of a local family.

Ava Williamson, born on Jan. 18 at McMaster Hospital, has a rare medical condition, Antley-Bixler Syndrome, the eighth confirmed case worldwide. It is a congenital defect that causes one or more sutures of the skull to fuse, and the joint between the radius and humerus to be missing, causing fusion at the elbow.

In addition to those problems, she also struggles with a weakened airway and had a tracheostomy and also a gastric feeding tube.

Parents Jay and Krista continue to deal with unforeseen medical expenses, including another surgery for their daughter this fall.

A trust account, named Ava’s Fund, has been set up at the TD Canada Trust in Fergus to assist the Williamson family. The account was opened with a donation from the Fergus Lions Club.

“The club members felt very strongly about their support and hope other service clubs will also support the fund,” said president Lion Eric Peterson.

Spokesperson and one of the trustees for the account, Larry Wainwright, indicated the need for such a fund was obvious, but confirms that this account is “not a Lion’s Club project.”

Donations to Ava’s Fund can be made at any TD Canada Trust location, using the number: 77-6366251.

A benefit barbecue will also take place on July 21 from 11am to 4pm at Fresh Co., in the St. Andrew plaza on St. Andrew St. West in Fergus. All products have been donated by Fresh Co.
