Triathalon weekend comes to Guelph

The Subaru Triathlon Series will be coming to Guelph Lake Conservation Area in Guelph on June 20 and 21.

The Subaru Triathlon Series second event of the 2015 season will have over 1,400 athletes participating at Guelph Lake on race weekend.

This will be the second triathlon hosted in open water this year. The Guelph Lake Triathlon is Ontario’s premier event due to the venue and surrounding area, and Canada’s largest triathlon race weekend.

Athletes from across Ontario will be racing in the three events hosted on the weekend.

There’s a new format this year with the Olympic taking place on Saturday. The Olympic distance consists of a 1.5km swim, 40km bike and 10km run, the duathlon replaces the swim with a 2km run. At 2pm the “try-a-tri” consisting of a 375m swim, 10km bike and 2.5km run will take place; this event is geared to the beginner athlete. On Sunday the sprint triathlon consisting of a 750m swim, 20km bike and 5km run will start at 9am. For those athletes who chose not to swim a duathlon is also offered, the duathlon consist of a 2km run, 20km bike and 5km run.

The Guelph Lake Triathlon offers something for all multisport athletes. The athletes will be using local roads north of Guelph Lake Conservation Area for the biking and running segments of the events.
