Tournament benefits Hospice Wellington

The Guelph Police Association hosted its 33rd annual golf tournament, The Norma Owen Memorial Golf Tournament, on Sept. 9 at the Ariss Valley Golf and Country Club.

This tournament is in memory of Constable Norma Owen,  a member of the Guelph Police Service who succumbed to cancer in 1983. The tournament has been held every year since her death.

“The Norma Owen Memorial Golf Tournament has been a fixture in the community since 1983 and it continues to thrive with the ongoing participation and support of our corporate sponsors, local businesses and many individuals,” police officials said in a recent press release.

The Guelph Police Association continues to support Hospice Wellington with the proceeds of the tournament.

“We are thrilled to announce the proceeds of this year’s tournament were $16,400,” officials said. “The Guelph Police Association’s Norma Owen Golf Tournament has now donated $317,400 to cancer-related charities since the tournament’s inception in 1983.”

The cheque presentation was held on Jan. 27 at Hospice Wellington.
