SIU opens two investigations in Wellington County
Separate investigations opened after injuries sustained in crash, arrest involving OPP
WELLINGTON COUNTY – The Special Investigations Unit (SIU) has opened two investigations into separate incidents in Wellington County.
On Aug. 16 around midnight, Wellington County OPP officers attempted to stop a vehicle in Guelph/Eramosa, according to a news release.
After the driver didn’t stop, police ended their pursuit.
The vehicle was later found after crashing.
“All five occupants were transported to hospital for assessment, and three were confirmed to have sustained injuries,” the news release stated.
In a separate incident, on Aug. 17 at around 8:15am, Wellington officers arrested a driver during a traffic stop on St. David Street in Fergus.
“During the arrest, the individual sustained an injury and was transported to hospital,” stated a news release.
No additional details were provided in either release.
Police notified the SIU about injuries sustained in both incidents.
The SIU’s mandate includes investigating cases where law enforcement involvement results in injury.
