Summertime payment of accounts

Area councils are seeing some changes to procedure because of the summer.

For example, a recent report by Treasurer Gord Duff noted that due to the reduced schedule of council meetings during the summer, it will be necessary to pay accounts before they are added to the approved list by council.

He said suppliers continue to invoice the town as usual during the summer with due dates often falling at month-end or sooner.

“In order to avoid incurring interest and late payment fees as well as to maintain our reputation as a reliable customer, it will be necessary to pay a resolution allowing staff to pay bills in between council meetings,” Duff said.

Those bills will need to be budgeted expenditures and are subject to the review and approval of department heads.

Treasury staff will prepare a list of accounts paid in the interval between council meetings, as well as accounts which do not need to be paid until after the usual council approval.

Council agreed to Duff’s request.
