LOCKYER, John Frank

It is with profound sadness, we announce the passing of John Frank Lockyer on May 18, 2026 at Guelph General Hospital. Surrounded by family, he died peacefully one week short of his 79th birthday following a brief battle with lung cancer. John was a loving brother, proud and devoted uncle, and cherished great uncle. He will be deeply missed by his sister, Lynda Guglick; his nieces, Melissa (Gethin) and Jennifer (Andrew) and his beloved great nieces, Brynn, Aubrey, and Isla, who brought him so much joy. John graduated from Trinity College at the University of Toronto, with an Honours degree in English. His career as an English teacher spanned over 30 years including memorable times in Sudbury, and many years at Pickering College in Newmarket. He inspired generations of students, many who remained in touch; a testament to the impact that he had on them. Following a deep commitment to his faith, he graduated from Thorneloe University, School of Theology in preparation for Ordination. He served congregations with compassion and dedication in Powassan, Callander, Restoule, Orangeville, and Elora. John was a lover of theatre, (especially the Stratford Festival), baseball, and his family. He brought joy and humour to so many occasions and experiences and touched the lives of everyone he met. John’s legacy of faith, learning and love will continue to live on in the hearts of his family, friends, former students, parishioners, and all who were fortunate enough to know him. He will be dearly missed and lovingly remembered always. A visitation is being held on Sunday, June 7th (2-4pm and 6-8pm), at Graham A Giddy Funeral Home in Fergus, with the Funeral on Monday, June 8th at 11am at St. John’s Church in Elora. Please visit www.grahamgiddyfh.com for more details. If interested, donations in lieu of flowers, can be made to the Church of St. John the Evangelist, Elora.
