Students to explore outer space at museum

ABOYNE – From rocket launches to rover descents, students will have the opportunity to take part in space-themed, hands-on and immersive workshops at the Wellington County Museum and Archives next month.

The museum has partnered with Royal City Science and the department of Physics at the University of Guelph to offer Space Week from April 9 to 12.

“The wonders of the cosmos have captivated humanity ever since we were able to look up and wonder why,” museum officials stated.

During Space Week students will be able to embark on a virtual journey through the cosmos with a mobile planetarium.

Staff from the university’s physics department will work alongside Royal City Science volunteers to lead students in three activities during one and a half hour sessions aimed at students in Grades 5 and 6.

For $5 per student, teachers and home school groups can register for a morning or afternoon session April 9 to 12.

To register visit onlineforms.wellington.ca/Museum-and-Archives/Space-Week-Registration-Form. Registration is first come first served, with a maximum of 180 students per day. For more information email katiec@wellington.ca.
